Gender Stereotypes I the Thriller Genre

Gender;

Females in the Thriller genre are often represented using the typical stereotype that they are vulnerable and unable to rely on themselves for safety and protection. Plotlines often feature a female character in jeopardy or in a situation of distress therefore requiring another character to help/save her. However contrasting to this often movies in modern cinema try to oppose this representation by featuring an independent strong female character however this is not as frequently used in this genre.

Males within thriller films are often represented as the main protagonist and are for the most part, depicted as dominant within the film narrative. This dominance is mostly portrayed through mental agility and physical strength. This can often be found in scenes within long fight and chase scenes between the males (protagonists) and the antagonist.
